Trucking Across the USA

Trucking Across the USA

Over the past year and a half, I’ve had an absolute blast playing American Truck Simulator and streaming my experience. My goal was to learn more about the geography of my friends south of the border—being Canadian and all—and I’ve discovered so much along the way. Since Twitch is an American-based platform, many of my viewers are from the U.S., which has made the journey even more interesting.

One of the biggest surprises has been meeting so many real-life truckers. I never imagined how many people spend their days on the road, only to log into the game afterward and keep on trucking! Their dedication is incredible, and connecting with them through TGB Virtual Truck Company has been a privilege. I call them “lunatics”—affectionately, of course—because they eat, sleep, and breathe trucking. Many of them don’t even play other games! Some have built fully immersive setups with rigs, wheels, pedals, and CB radios, making their virtual experience as close to the real thing as possible. These gaming wheels alone can cost hundreds of dollars!

I think these guys truly love their trucks. At first, I felt special because I loved the colour purple, and naturally, I made my truck purple. But as I kept playing, I realized many of my fellow truckers also had purple rigs! Everywhere I turned, the trucks were purple, so I decided to switch things up and go with a mix of teal and purple. Sometimes, it even looks a little pink, but I’m enjoying the change.

Living in downtown Toronto, I’m constantly surrounded by trucks. Whether it’s rigs passing by my house, rolling through the expressway, or navigating construction zones, there’s always something to see. I’ve started rubbernecking, trying to identify different truck brands—but I still struggle to tell a Western Star apart from a Freightliner. That said, I do love Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks!

I also want to give a shoutout to my fellow truckers —Sixtyninechevy, HamsterTrucking, Old_Timer_65, Big_PAPA_Pos, TechGuyBrian, and the rest (too many to mention )of my trucking crew. I call them “my boys” because they make every session an absolute ball. Unlike some of my fellow truckers, I play other games, too. But if I’m looking for someone to chat with, it’s always one of them.

Thanks to them, I’ve discovered the wild world of weigh stations (which drive me mad with how many stops I have to make!), This is a great game and community. With this game and community, I have learned so much about trucking and embraced the community.

American Truck Simulator has been an absolute blast, and I couldn’t ask for a better crew to share the experience with. Feel free to join our Virtual truck company and keep on trucking!
